Every drop of water on Earth has been here since the beginning of time. 71% of the Earth's surface is covered by water. Of that water, 96.5% is in our oceans as salt water. That leaves 3.5% left as fresh water, but 69% of that water is locked up in glaciers and the polar ice caps. This leaves less than 1% of the total volume of water on Earth available as fresh water, and most of that is deep underground and unavailable to us. So you see, there is actually very little water available for all of us to live our daily lives. That is why it is so important to protect and conserve our water resources and do what we can individually to ensure this precious resource is available for future generations.

The Water Cycle |
The Earth's "Water Cycle" plays the key role in determining how and where these precious water resources are available and distributed. With the constant cycle of evaporation, condensation, and precipitation, these water resources move about our planet. The state of California suffered through one of the state's worst droughts in its history from 2012 to 2016. The so-called "El-Nino", which hit California this winter and early spring with heavy snow pack and rain, shows the dramatic effects of the water cycle and how quickly things can change. The people of California are still a little skeptical that this is the recovery they need, but they are at least breathing a sigh of relief now that their water resources are on the path to recovery. What a valuable lesson learned in our lifetime.

We will make this short and sweet. Point made about our water resources and how we all need to protect them every day. The simplest way is to not let the water run constantly while brushing our teeth. You never know where that water may be tomorrow!
